The First Crusade Takes Jerusalem
Crusader armies capture Jerusalem amid great bloodshed, beginning nearly two centuries of struggle for the holy city.
After a long siege in the summer of 1099, the armies of the First Crusade broke into Jerusalem, and chroniclers of both sides recorded the terrible slaughter of its Muslim and Jewish inhabitants. The wound united hearts slowly toward the city, through Zangi and Nur al-Din to Salahuddin, whose mercy at its recovery in 1187 stands in history’s ledger beside that day.

تستولي جيوش الصليبيين على القدس وسط مذبحة عظيمة، فيبدأ صراع قرابة قرنين على المدينة المقدسة.
بعد حصار طويل في صيف ١٠٩٩ اقتحمت جيوش الحملة الأولى القدس، ودوّن مؤرخو الجانبين هول المذبحة بأهلها من المسلمين واليهود. وحّد هذا الجرح القلوب نحو المدينة شيئًا فشيئًا، من زنكي إلى نور الدين إلى صلاح الدين الذي وقفت رحمته يوم استعادتها سنة ١١٨٧ في سجل التاريخ مقابل ذلك اليوم.
