The Compilation of the Quran

After many memorizers are martyred at Yamamah, the Quran is gathered into a single written collection.

At the counsel of Umar, Abu Bakr commissioned Zayd ibn Thabit, a scribe of revelation, to gather the Quran from written fragments and the memories of the companions into one verified collection. This careful work preserved the text exactly as it was recited, and it remains one of the most consequential acts of preservation in history.
