Traveling from Bukhara across the Muslim world for sixteen years, al Bukhari examined hundreds of thousands of narrations and selected only those meeting his strict criteria of unbroken, trustworthy transmission. His Sahih became the most revered book in Islam after the Quran, and his method shaped the sciences of verification for centuries.
