In the two decades after the Second World War, Indonesia, Pakistan, and nations across the Middle East, Africa and Asia won independence, each carrying long struggles and sacrifices. The map of the modern Muslim world took shape in these years, with more than fifty Muslim majority states eventually joined in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
