Uthman and the Standard Quran

Caliph Uthman ibn Affan has authorized copies of the Quran prepared and sent to the major cities of the realm.

As Islam spread across many lands and dialects, Uthman convened the committee of Zayd ibn Thabit to produce master copies from the collection kept since Abu Bakr. Copies were sent to the great cities so the ummah would read from one confirmed text. Every printed Quran today descends from that standard.
